Ice Bear Sculptures Won’t Make It To USA for Earth Day
We first reported the Ice Bear Project last month just as the third sculpture had made its way to Montreal, Canada to meet its final demise (see the story here http://www.ilovepolarbears.net/330/six-tonne-polar-bear-now-in-montreal ).
The people behind the project had plans to take the Ice Bear Sculptures to New York for the Christies ‘Green’ Auction and Washington DC for Earth Day, both in April. According to their blog (found at http://www.icebearproject.org/blog/) the bear skeletons from London and Copenhagen were entering the freezer on Feb 11 in preparation. There are also plans to take one to Sydney in August then onto Hong Kong and China amongst many others destinations.
Unfortunately in their latest update, the creators have announced that they haven’t raised the necessary funding to take either sculpture to New York or Washington DC! One small positive is that the Ice Bear from Montreal will be refrozen and should be heading to Toronto in June!
Just found this cool video of construction and demise of one of the ice bears, again with time lapse video!
It must be an amazing site to see in person, the polar bear melting, a stunning visual reminder! Hopefully we see it here in Australia during our winter!
