Polar Bear Odyssey Opening at Como Zoo – Neil and Buzz Return Home

Polar Bear Odyssey, after years of construction and millions of dollars spent is finally reading for its grand opening and Como Zoo are putting on a MASSIVE weekend to celebrate.

Here are a list of all that is going on in Minnesota over the next four days!

Grand Opening Celebration
June 3 – 6

Welcome Buzz and Neil into their NEW state-of-the-art habitat.  Watch the Polar Bears dive into their pools, swim in the water and forage for treats.  Buzz and Neil are looking forward to see their fans! Many fun activities are planned for the entire weekend; check out schedule below.

Thursday, June 3

10:00-10:30 AM          Location: VC South Patio
Roseville Middle School Jazz Band will perform to greet guests with pep, zest & celebration.

10:00-10:10 AM
Polar Bear Parade with Snowflake (the giant polar bear puppet) who will lead guests from the Visitor Center through zoo grounds to the ribbon cutting ceremony at Polar Bear Odyssey.

10:10 AM
Official ribbon-cutting ceremony at PBO exhibit w/ Mayor Coleman, Robert Buchanan (PBI President) and other dignitaries.

10:00 AM-6:00 PM—Ongoing          Location: Donor Plaza

  • Polar Bear Ice Hop Activity

Flash Point Photography – Get your picture taken with a life-sized Polar Bear background! This activity has a fee.

10:30am             Location: Polar Bear Odyssey
Polar Bear Program – Get up close to the Polar Bears and observe special enrichment, training and zoo keeper talks.

11:00am             Location: Listen for PA announcement
Zookeeper Talk
– Did you know that you can meet a gardener and zookeeper every day?  Each day a different topic will be featured and guests will learn about the day to day operations of running Como Zoo and Marjorie McNeely Conservatory.  Learn about the animals and plants and how they are cared for, plus guests can ask questions!

11:30am Location: Sparky’s amphitheater
Sparky the Sea Lion Show – Sparky presents “Sparky’s Tundra Tour”.  Sparky is excited about the return of polar bears Buzz and Neil. In celebration of this event, Sparky will take a trip to the Arctic where she could run into other animals such as a seal, walrus, Arctic fox and polar bear.  Each show is a little different – you never know what you might see!

12:30PM          Location: Sparky’s amphitheater
Creature Feature – Join us as we introduce three of Como’s Creatures vying for the title of Como’s Favorite Featured Creature!  You’ll learn what these animals eat, how they are trained and much more in this fun, interactive stage show.

Gardener Talk
– Did you know that you can meet a gardener and zookeeper every day?  Each day a different topic will be featured and guests will learn about the day to day operations of running Como Zoo and Marjorie McNeely Conservatory.  Learn about the animals and plants and how they are cared for, plus guests can ask questions!

2:00PM          Location: Sparky’s amphitheater
